The biological state of being mother is known as maternity. The biological relationship between a mother and a child can be determined using a DNA Maternity Test. This type of test is carried out in much the same way as a DNA Paternity Test and has the same inclusion rate of 9.99% in cases where an alleged mother is the true biological mother and an exclusion rate of 100% where the alleged mother is not the maternal mother of the child. We often use the term maternal to refer to the instinctual drive towards childbearing and nurturing that a women usually feels. Maternity and maternity testing can have legal bearing in cases where there is the need for an alleged mother to acknowledge her own offspring.
