Y-Chromosome TestThe Y-Chromosome can be termed the male chromosome as it is only found in males. Females have an X chromosome paired with another X-chromosome; males an X-chromosome paired with a Y-chromosome. Since the Y-chromosome only appears in males, it is an important chromosome when one wishes to track their ancestry through genetic testing. Ancestry is mapped through what is known as Y-STR testing. More information about this can be found on Relationship DNA Testing. In cases of infidelity, testing his chromosome is also important as it will establish the gender of the person with whom a partner is cheating. However, testing the Y-chromosome alone cannot determine paternity. Related Article: DNA Testing in the Search for your Ancestors |
