Glossary term for DNA Paternity Testing

DNA Paternity Testing

In law, it 'paternity' means verifying who the legal father of a child is. In medicine, it relates establishing the biological role in the conception of a child. Establishing paternity can be important for those wishing to get child support from a man who was never married to a woman with which he fathered a child. Paternity tests can now be done from home using a home DNA paternity test. The test does not require that mother’s DNA to be taken, though this is very often recommended. Paternity tests done at home are not court admissible, and thus, should one require court intervention, they would need to opt for a court admissible/ legal paternity test.
