Glossary definition for Discreet Samples

Discreet samples

Discreet Samples are used when it is not possible to use a standard DNA sampling method; the standard method being an oral mouth swab. Discreet samples are sometimes referred to as non-standard samples, though the former is the preferred term. Discreet samples include hair, blood, or a cigarette end in such cases where a person is unavailable for testing, perhaps dead. Different samples give varying degree of success and using discreet samples might be conditioned by certain laws depending on the country you live in. However, the DNA testing you choose will guide you through all the necessary information. When we talk of success rates in discreet samples we refer to the probability of extracting DNA from the sample; once the DNA is extracted than the test is as reliable and valid as a standard test using saliva. Further information about these types of sample can be found by visiting Discreet DNA Samples.
