31/08/2007 - easyDNA Notes Increased Demand for DNA Forensic Testing Services

There is an increasing requirement for Forensic DNA Testing, particularly involving the deceased, and DNA testing firm easyDNA has been particularly involved in cases involving 'non-standard' samples.

Dublin, IRELAND - 31/08/2007 There has been an increase in demand for forensic DNA testing involving what are known as 'non-standard' samples, generally involving the deceased. The well-known DNA testing firm easyDNA has experienced many such cases, frequently involving paternity disputes and a desire on behalf of the client of proving that that they are the son or father of the deceased.Obviously, most of these cases involve inheritance, and while the lack of proper estate planning is often responsible, companies such as easyDNA can help to settle such disputes once and for all and have handled a number of personal and commissioned cases where they have been instrumental in resolving particularly difficult problems.

According to a spokesman for easyDNA, "A typical requirement will be for the client to require that a sample from a deceased relative be screened to prove that the deceased is the biological son or daughter of the client, or alternatively that the deceased is the father of the client. In each case there can be significant inheritance implications and it is important that the samples are taken strictly according to procedure and that the security of the sample is maintained throughout the entire procedure.

"With a recent death, a fingernail clipping or hair sample will be sufficient for us, but if the deceased has been buried, then assuming that the legal procedures have been carried out for an exhumation, an expert professional will be able to take the samples of bone or teeth that are suitable for DNA analysis. However, if there is no body, for example if it has been cremated, then there are still possibilities. We could use unwashed clothing, or even clean clothing with hairs attached might be enough, as would any other item that could contain DNA traces. Licked envelopes or stamps are examples, or old pipes and anything else that could contain samples. A comb or hairbrush might contain hair samples, as could tap or faucet u-bends and the like.

"Samples such as these are not guaranteed to give results, but we have a good record for success with difficult samples. Clients with non-standard samples should call us to discuss their needs, and we also have a website that lists such samples that we can use, along with the likelihood of successfully extracting sufficient DNA for the test.Check our website and go to the Forensics DNA testing section."
